Karzai weary of coalition troops in Afghanistan

Posted on March 15, 2012

Afghan President Hamid Karzai has told US Secretary of Defence Leon Panetta that his country’s security forces will be ready to take full control of the country in 2013: a year earlier than previously planned.  The declaration came today, just days after the killing of 16 Afghan civilians by a US soldier. In addition to an anticipated withdrawal from the country, the Afghan leadership has suggested that coalition troops should be removed from small village outposts and confined to the larger bases.
